CANCER AWARENESS

Cancer is defined as the uncontrolled proliferation of abnormal cells in the body. Cancer occurs when the body’s normal control mechanism fails. Old cells do not die; instead, they proliferate uncontrollably, resulting in the formation of new, abnormal cells. These extra cells can combine to form a mass of tissue known as a tumor. Cancer is any of a large number of diseases characterized by the formation of abnormal cells that divide uncontrollably and have the ability to infiltrate and destroy normal body tissue. Cancer has the potential to spread throughout your body.

Cancer is the world’s second leading cause of death. However, thanks to advancements in cancer screening, treatment, and prevention, survival rates for many types of cancer are improving.

Top 10 Common Cancers

SKIN CANCER
Skin cancer, defined as the abnormal growth of skin cells, is most commonly found on sun-exposed skin. However, this common type of cancer can also appear on areas of your skin that are not normally exposed to sunlight. Basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma are the three most common types of skin cancer.
LUNG CANCER
Lung cancer begins in the lungs and can spread to lymph nodes or other organs, including the brain. Cancer can spread to the lungs from other organs. Metastases are formed when cancer cells spread from one organ to another.

Small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer are the two most common types of lung cancer (including adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma). These types of lung cancer develop and respond differently to treatment. Non-small cell lung cancer outnumbers small cell lung cancer in terms of prevalence.
PROSTATE CANCER
Prostate cancer is a type of cancer that affects the prostate gland. In men, the prostate is a small walnut-shaped gland that produces seminal fluid, which feeds and transports sperm. One of the most common forms of cancer is prostate cancer.
KIDNEY CANCER
Kidney cancer is a type of cancer that begins in the kidneys. It occurs when healthy cells in one or both kidneys proliferate uncontrollably, resulting in the formation of a lump (called a tumor).
BREAST CANCER
Breast cancer is a disease in which cells in the breast proliferate uncontrollably. Breast cancer is classified into several types. The type of breast cancer is determined by which cells in the breast become cancerous. Breast cancer can begin in a variety of locations within the breast.
COLORECTAL CANCER
Colorectal cancer is a disease that causes cells in the colon or rectum to proliferate uncontrollably. For short, it is sometimes referred to as colon cancer. The colon is also referred to as the large intestine or bowel. The rectum is the connecting passageway between the colon and the anus.
KIDNEY CANCER
Kidney cancer is a type of cancer that starts in the kidneys. Your kidneys are two bean-shaped organs that are roughly the size of your fist. They are situated behind your abdominal organs, one on each side of your spine. Kidney cancer is a cancer that begins in the kidneys. It occurs when healthy cells in one or both kidneys proliferate uncontrollably and form a lump (called a tumor).
BLADDER CANCER
Bladder cancer is a disease that causes malignant (cancer) cells to form in the bladder tissues. The risk of bladder cancer can be influenced by smoking. Blood in the urine and pain while urinating are two signs and symptoms of bladder cancer. Bladder cancer is diagnosed using urine and bladder examinations.
NON-HODGKIN LYMPHOMA
Non-lymphoma Hodgkin’s is a type of cancer that begins in your lymphatic system, which is part of your body’s germ-fighting immune system. White blood cells called lymphocytes grow abnormally in non-lymphoma Hodgkin’s and can form tumors throughout the body.
THYROID CANCER
Thyroid cancer is a type of cancer that begins in the thyroid gland. Cancer begins when cells begin to proliferate uncontrollably. The thyroid gland produces hormones that help regulate your metabolism, heart rate, blood pressure, and body temperature.
ENDOMETRIAL CANCER
Endometrial cancer is a disease that causes malignant (cancer) cells to form in the endometrium’s tissues. The endometrium is the lining of a woman’s uterus, which is a hollow, muscular organ in her pelvis. A fetus develops within the uterus.

Cancer education is essential for early detection and improved health-seeking behavior.

Cancer is common in both developing and developed countries, but public awareness remains low.

Due to a lack of awareness, screening modalities may be used ineffectively, resulting in a delay in diagnosis.
